phase one

first things first

In the initial orthodontic treatment phase, or interceptive orthodontics, patients typically start losing their baby teeth and erupting their permanent teeth at age 6. According to the American Association of Orthodontists all children should see an orthodontist by the age of 7. At this age, it is easy to detect whether there are any abnormalities in jaw growth or tooth development that can be treated more easily. Most often, Phase One treatment comes in the form of a Palatal Expander to correct a crossbite.

At Chinitz Orthodontics, we are by design as conservative as possible. We like kids to be kids, and having braces on for six years is no fun. We only treat Phase One when treatment is necessary, no exceptions. Further, we keep Phase One treatment as short as possible, usually finishing in 6 months or less. Come in for a quick (and complimentary) consultation and say hi, get to know us, and become familiar with the practice. You can feel comfortable and confident that we will be honest and only recommend treatment when it is truly recommended. Phase one treatment includes correcting: crossbites, underbites, overbites, crowding, and impacted teeth.
