New Rochelle’s Center for Traditional and Customizable Braces
Braces are the gold standard of orthodontic treatment – and yes, they come in gold, too! They are used to correct a wide range of concerns, including spacing, crowding, rotation, and bite issues. As the Director of Clinical Orthodontics at Touro University, Dr. Isaac Chinitz is one of Westchester’s leading providers of both traditional and custom-printed braces. If you’re ready to get started with braces today, schedule a complimentary consultation with us!
How Do Braces Work?
Braces gently and gradually guide teeth into proper alignment using brackets bonded to each tooth and a shaped wire that connects them. This wire applies continuous, controlled pressure, prompting the surrounding bone to remodel and allow the teeth to shift into their ideal position over the course of several months or years. The result is more than cosmetic — a well-aligned bite improves oral hygiene, distributes chewing forces evenly, and reduces the risk of long-term dental complications.
To hold the wire in place, we use small rubber bands (called ligatures) on each bracket — and you get to add your own personal style by picking your favorite color combination! Yankees fans might go with navy and white, while Mets fans… well, they’d probably just switch orthodontists. Just kidding!
At Chinitz Orthodontics, we are dedicated to the most modern technology. We go a step further with braces by offering custom LightForce brackets. Instead of a one-size-fits-all solution, each bracket is 3D-printed to exactly fit each tooth. The entire braces process is planned digitally and the tooth trajectory is prescribed into the bracket. This makes the treatment more precise from the start. Every mouth is unique! Why shouldn’t your braces be too?

Why Dr. Chinitz Offers LightForce Custom Braces
Dr. Chinitz firmly believes in using only the latest and greatest orthodontic technology for his patients. LightForce custom 3D printed braces are some of the best brackets offered in orthodontics today, and for good reason! Since they are so efficient, they can cut down on overall treatment time. Plus, they are often more comfortable for patients.
With his extensive experience, Dr. Chinitz has been asked to lecture for LightForce, teaching other orthodontists how to achieve better and faster results with this technology. As one of the top providers offering custom braces, Dr. Chinitz has access to the brand new metal custom brackets in addition to the original clear brackets LightForce offers. Both options are terrific ways to achieve your dream smile in less time.
The Benefits of Braces
While many regard braces as a purely cosmetic treatment, their benefits extend well beyond a more confident smile. Properly aligned teeth are easier to clean and maintain, making them significantly less prone to long-term issues such as gum disease and inflammation. That said, a straighter smile remains a compelling reason on its own to pursue orthodontic treatment — the confidence that comes with a beautiful smile is a powerful reward for patients of any age.
Alternatives to Braces
Not everyone wants their orthodontic journey announced to the world — and that’s exactly where Invisalign® clear aligners shine! They’re not the right fit for every smile, but plenty of our patients (teens and adults alike) love them for being nearly invisible and fully removable, so you can eat, drink, brush, and floss without any extra hassle.
What To Expect During Braces Treatment
The braces treatment process looks a little different for everyone, but it always begins the same. You’ll start with a complimentary consultation, where we’ll scan your teeth (no goopy impressions!), discuss your options, and get ready to bond your braces. After your braces have been placed, we’ll go over how to take care of them, including new brushing and flossing techniques.
Most patients wear braces for 18 to 24 months, though this timeline can be shorter, especially with LightForce braces. During this time, you’ll come in for periodic adjustments and check-ins and leave each appointment closer and closer to your brand-new smile!
When your braces come off, we’ll celebrate first, and then we’ll move you into the retention phase with orthodontic retainers. At the end, you’ll have achieved a healthier and more confident smile that you can love for life.

Some patients experience mild discomfort with braces, especially after first getting them or after adjustment appointments. This discomfort is temporary and can be managed at home with cold and soft foods, saltwater rinses, and over-the-counter medication (as recommended by your doctor).
While everyone’s case is different, most people wear braces for 18 to 24 months. With LightForce custom braces, this time can be shorter! Regardless of how long you’re in braces for, you may find that the time flies by as your smile changes.
Absolutely not. Many adults get braces to correct their smile later in life. In fact, one in three orthodontic patients is an adult! With clear bracket options, adults can feel confident in their daily lives while achieving straighter smiles.
